Hi All, We created an Amazon store that's pretty basic and currently only for U. If you purchase something from it and then other items through Amazon, we make a small commission. It won't cost anymore than Amazon normally does but will help support our show and website and would be greatly appreciated! As a 19-year-old male, I've been playing a wide variety of racing sims for many years, and I can honestly opinionate that iRacing is by far the pricest one I've seen. You get charged for downloading cars and tracks, and even for setting up private races and leagues. You can't even purchase a lifetime subscription like you can in rFactor 2. Because of this, I have a few suggestions for the developers of iRacing I doubt they'll read this, but there's no harm in voicing my ideas 1. Offer additional cars and tracks for free. Let drivers set up private races and leagues for free. If the developers implement these features, I will purchase iRacing again without a second thought. I hope these suggestions come to fruition in the future! I think the biggest question would be.. That's something that no other developer offers. IMO, people take that aspect of iRacing for granted. If they didn't offer the competition side of things, they may be able to offer a one time purchase if they had AI and or you could race privately with your own server. I think that's something they should offer with a package of cars and tracks. Like an Oval or Road Racing package with some DLC. I ran leagues for many years and had to pay for my own server. I tends to agree with Scrogger. Indeed it is very costly and for the amount of money and considering that we buy tracks and cars, at least I would say that the minimum is to have a standalone version where you can do your training or time trial. But if it was very cheap also everyone would join even people that is not really interested in racing. You can keep it relatively cheap if you play only with the included content. I'm also in the 'pricing is where it needs to be to keep iRacing on top of the game' school of thought. It's expensive compared to other games, but in many ways offers a value that other sims cannot. At first glance its a strange school of thought for me to embrace since I'm not, nor have I ever been an iRacing member. I'm not ready yet. I'm still cutting my teeth on hot laps and AI racing in PCars and AC, which are rewarding sims in their own right. For me the cost of iRacing serves as a tipping point. If the cost barrier to enter was lower I might not show such self restraint. I'm not being altruistic here either. My restraint in joining the iRacing ranks is actually pretty selfish. I want to join when I'm ready to learn the finer points from my fellow sim racers, the basics which I'm learning now can just as easily be learned at the expense of the AI. The fact that I'm still enjoying my time in PCars and AC doesn't hurt either. I do watch a few iRacing chanels on Twitch, and listen to the iRacing Today Radio podcast and from what I gather you can dramatically reduce your iRacing costs by taking advantage of different discounts throughout the year. My goal is to hit the iRacing circuit by next November. Everything has a price. The monthly fee is to probably keep the servers up and offer you some cars to participate with to get your feet wet. When you buy the other content which you are not forced to buy you are paying for the time spent to create that piece of content. It cost money and time to create content to the level and quality we see. It would be foolish of iRacing to not charge something for it. Like mentioned above iRacing does offer insensitives when you participate and you can buy content cheaper if you play iracing the right way. I'm also pretty sure Darin has some good videos to watch that explain this when you start out. Do I think iracing is expensive yes maybe but that's if you buy a ton of content at once. Pick a series you want to run and buy the content for that series. It won't break the bank and you will enjoy racing against others. The problem with iRacing is the Rookie license. LOL The crashing and bashing due to various promotions to get onto iRacing for very little or free even attracts a LOT of people, of all skill levels, a LOT never stay with iRacing and some do. Running in the SRF Spec Racer Ford series, the racing is relatively clean and pretty decent but here's the catch...... On weeks where the SRF races on the free tracks the ones included with base membership , there are a LOT more people running and a LOT more crashing. Once you get into Extra Content cars and tracks, my guess is the racing gets much better. Not everyone wants to constantly dish out cash to race each time they come out with new cars and tracks and I agree with Avenga, car and track prices are overpriced in my opinion. Correct me if im wrong but looking at some numbers recently was somewhere on the forum the number of people playing has dropped a lot. There are a lot of racing games out at the moment all with ongoing support with new content that is being pushed out for free on many, its getting competitive and that's great for us. I dont think the cost of running the servers should fall on the community, as some have said it cost them very little once you have invested heavily so how do they make significant amounts from it... I have no problem with paying for new content and feel they should support their game in this way. Not with a sub and new content fee, just my opinion I would have to agree. This would at least keep you practiced for the day you can afford to renew your membership and race against others. Never have I ever had such great races with such great people as I have on iR and I believe that's primarily because of the high cost of admission. I will admit that the Sporting Code, protest system and incidents also help keep folks honest. Im a big believer in getting what you pay for and iR is no exception. Hence why im renewed through 2018..
